Obituary for Jean B. Long (Babel)

Jean B.  Long (Babel)
After a courageous battle with cancer Jean B. (Babel) Long, 78, passed away June 28, 2015 with her family by her side.

Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Rachel (Mill) Babel.

Jean married her high school sweetheart, Donald C. Long, in 1957 and celebrated 57 years of marriage.

Jean graduated from Grand View School of Nursing as Valedictorian and earned a Bachelors of Science degree From Kutztown University, graduating sigma cum laude. She was an emergency room nurse at Germantown Hospital before working for Kutztown Area School District as an elementary school nurse for 25 years retiring in 1999.

She was a member of Palm Schwenkfelder Church and the Evergreen German Club in Fleetwood.

Along with her husband, Jean is also survived by son, Douglas M. and his wife, Lori (Sipida) of Mechanicsburg; daughters, Deborah A., wife of Dale Stoudt of Mertztown, Denise A. Long of Honey Brook, and Donna J. Long of Fleetwood; and grandsons, Derek W. Long of Mechanicsburg, and Bradley M. and Kyle C. Stoudt of Mertztown. She is predeceased by her step-sister, Florence (Babel) Martin.

Jean will be remembered for her love of family, faith and friends. She always put others before herself and taught her children to do the same. She will be dearly missed.

We would like to thank Dr. Suresh Nair of Lehigh Oncology, for without his treatment we would not have been able to spend another nine years with our mom/ wife.

The Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services will be held privately. Burial will be in Palm Schwenkfelder Cemetery, Palm. Online condolences may be made at www.mannslonakerfuneralhome.com.
