Obituary for Dennis S. Nice Sr.

Dennis S.  Nice Sr.
Dennis S. Nice, 90, Sr., lifelong resident of Souderton, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Frederick Living where he had resided since 2013. He was the husband of the late Doris E. (Smith) Nice. They had been married for 60 years.

Born in Souderton, PA, he was a son of the late Melvin F. and Lillian (Bissey) Nice.

He was a 1942 graduate of Souderton High School, and worked building aircrafts until his enlistment in the U.S. Air Force in 1943. He earned the rank of sergeant, before being honorably discharged. After World War II he and his brothers joined together in the carpentry business that was established by their father, and eventually he partnered with his son.

He was a member of Little Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Telford.

Surviving is his son, Dennis S. Nice, Jr. and wife, Carol of Sellersville; a sister, Pauline Curtis of Souderton; a brother, Melvin Nice and wife, Loretta of Souderton; two grandchildren, Tammy L. Derstine and husband, David of Pottstown and Daniel L. Nice of Philadelphia; and four great grandchildren, Grace, Ethan, Eric, and Faith Derstine. Along with his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, Douglas C. Nice; a sister, Lillian Nase; and a brother, Leon Nice.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Frederick Living, 2849 Big Road, Frederick with Rev. Scott Nice officiating. Burial follows in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Sassmansville. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. at Frederick Living prior to the service and also to a funeral luncheon following the burial.
