Obituary for Donald R. Moll

It is with great sadness that we say good-bye to our wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Donald Roy Moll, who passed away on October 15, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family, and devoted caregiver (Spencer Moses). Donald and his wife Barbara (Slemmer) celebrated 59 years of marriage in March.

Donald peacefully went to our lord in the same home he was born in on September 4, 1932. He was the son of the late Elmer Wilbur Moll and Glenna Koch (Schlicher) Moll.

Donald was especially proud of his two grandchildren, Dagny and Isabel. They are the children of daughter, Marcia Moll Barone and her husband, Christopher Barone. They are the sixth generation to live in the family home and will always be Pappy’s girls.

Donald attended a one room school, Harding School, for first through eighth grade. He would reminisce about taking his gun to school to go hunting at lunch. He graduated in 1950 from East Greenville High School, as student body President – standing all of 4’10” and 98 lbs. He loved playing hard ball and was an All-State Shortstop.

Donald and Barbara owned the Furniture Shop in Pennsburg. Donald started the business with a kitchen set and a shingle for upholstery. His dedication to his customers was unpatrolled in a world that was moving to chain stores and big boxes. The store closed after 50 years in business in 2007 when Donald suffered a stroke.

Donald was a lifelong member of New Goshenhoppen Church UCC (serving on church Consistory for several years) and a past Master of Perkiomen Lodge #595, Red Hill. Donald was an avid hunter and loved the old log cabin in Mifflinburg. He also enjoyed fishing and photography. But most of all he loved making others laugh and will be dearly missed at family gatherings.

Surviving along with his wife, daughter and granddaughters; is a sister Jeanette “Dolly” Wieand of Emmaus.

Donald donated his body to the Humanity Gifts Registry to help advance the education of medical students.

The family will receive friends at New Goshenhoppen UCC, 1070 Church Road, East Greenville on Saturday, October 18, from 9 to 10:45am. A Masonic service will held at 10:45a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Michael D. Jones officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home. Offer sympathy to the family at www.mannslonakerfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the New Goshenhoppen UCC Accessibility fund or to Perkiomen School, 200 Seminary Avenue, Pennsburg, PA 18073 or www.perkiomen.org.
