Winnie Kistler

February 20, 1915 — December 1, 2010

Winnie G. Kistler, 95, of Zionsville, died Wednesday afternoon, December 1, 2010 at Frederick Mennonite Community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William S. Kistler.

Winnie was the daughter of Charles and Sallie (Beiteman) Greulich. She had three brothers: Paul, Howard, Charles and one sister, Helen all of whom preceded her in death.

She graduated from East Greenville High School in 1932. In 1937 she graduated with an RN from nursing school at the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. After working several years at Jefferson Hospital followed by Memorial Hospital in New York she headed back to East Greenville and married the "Boy Next Door" on October 28, 1939.
After living briefly in Pennsburg, Bill and Winnie moved the family to a farm in Zionsville which was their home for the rest of their lives. Winnie had a full time job raising a family, working in the garden and enjoying the "Peace of Mind" that family and farm life provided.

Winnie is survived by her six children; son, William S. (Steve) of Zionsville; daughters, Kathryn Powers of Washington D.C., Priscilla of Zionsville, Emily of Emmaus, Alice of Cresco and Sarah (Sally) of
Memphis, TN; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Winnie was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church in Pennsburg PA. She belonged to "The Great Books", Life Long Learning and several bridge clubs. She loved to cook, read (especially poetry) and to play bridge and tennis.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 81 N. Main Street, Pennsburg, PA. Everyone is welcome to join the family in the activity room for refreshment and fellowship after the service. Arrangements are by Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home.
