William Whalen

May 18, 1927 — June 5, 2012

William F. Whalen, III, 85, widower of Margaret M. (Dolan) Whalen, whom he shared 48 years of marriage with of Pennsburg, died on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.
Born in Springfield, MA he was a son of the late William F., Jr. and Rachel (Manning) Whalen.
He was employed as a Territory Sales Manager, selling leather goods for Buxton Leather Goods, retiring in the late 1990’s. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from American International College, Springfield, MA. He was a U.S. Marine having served during W.W. II and the Chinese invasion.
He was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Bally, PA. He was an avid fly fisherman, bird and deer hunter, loved camping, traveling to Maine and the outdoors. Most of all he loved his family.
Surviving are two children, Michael K. Whalen and his wife, Stacy of Bechtelsville, and Kathleen A. Schirmer, and husband, Commander Paul E. of Annapolis, MD; five grandchildren, Angela, Tara, Hunter, Aleka, and Jared; a sister, Betty Jane Lynch of Cape Cod, MA.
He was predeceased by a sister, Jean Tremblay.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 8, 2012 at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 610 Pine Street, Bally with Msgr. Edward J. Coyle officiating. The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 9:00 to 10:45 A.M. in the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville.
