Walter W. “Chuck” Wydra, 84, of Pennsburg and formerly of Telford, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 in Good Shepherd Specialty Hospital, Bethlehem. He is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Rita M. (Wisdo) Wydra.
Born in Northumberland County, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Serowski) Wydra.
He retired after many years of working as the Maintenance Man at the Telford Garden Apartment Complex.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving on the USS Forrest Royal. Serving two tours of duties, he earned the Victory War Medal during World War II and the National Defense Service Medal during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Tin Can Sailors and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was an avid golfer and was a life member of Fox Hollow. He also enjoyed making model airplanes and ships, painting and fishing and also camping in his younger days.
He will be sadly missed by his four children, Bonita M., wife of Allan DeLong of Hamburg, William W. Wydra, Sr. and wife, Connie of Ashland, Deborah L. Wydra of Ashland and Denise, wife of Frank Zukowski of Pennsburg; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Along with his wife and parents, he is predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Clem, Edward and Chester Wydra and two grandchildren, Keith Richards and Prisethane Wydra.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA 18041 with Rev. Charles A. Romanowski officiating.
