Walter Rayford Roberts, 81, husband of Sadie M. (Geiger) Roberts, of Pennsburg, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Valley Manor in Coopersburg.
Born in Blanchard, OK, he was a son of the late Walter Riley and Maccie (McGuire) Roberts.
He was employed for 35 years as an upholsterer for Knoll and then he worked for Kulp Car Rental in Gilbertsville for 8 years.
He was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sumneytown.
Walter served as a paratrooper in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He loved to be outdoors and was an avid hunter and NASCAR fan.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 60 years, are his children, Mark Roberts of Muncy, PA; Lori Roberts Hill and her husband, Anthony of Gilbertsville, PA; and Kyle Roberts and his wife, Jane of Perkiomenville, PA; daughter in law Rita Roberts of Danville, PA; siblings, Travis, Dale and Caril Roberts of CA, Hiram Roberts of Co; Edna, wife of Carl Meir of TX; Arnita Vargas of OK; and Faye Frederick of Green Lane, PA; 6 grandchildren, Ryan; Andrew; Terri; Erin; Levi and Kasey; 2 great-grandchildren, Reece and Ridley. He was predeceased by siblings, Ruth Stroud; Beatrice Frederick, Elmer and Jerry Roberts.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014 at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 611 Swamp Creek Road, New Berlinville, PA 19545 with the Rev. Rebecca L. Eisenhart and Pastor Robb Faller. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Friday, at the church.
