Thomas B. Barron, 81, of Green Lane, Pennsylvania, died on Saturday February 3, 2024 at the Philadelphia Veteran’s Hospice. He was the much-loved husband of Ellen Morgan Barron, with whom he shared 33 years of marriage.
Upon graduation from the University of Wisconsin, Tom was accepted into the Marine Corps Officer Candidate School and trained at Quantico. He was then sent to Flight School in Pensacola where he learned to fly the H34 and CH46 helicopters he flew in Vietnam. He was stationed at Marble Mountain, outside of DaNang. He participated in 220 air operations. He received several service awards, air medals, meritorious rescue citations, and the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain. He was a member of the Marine Corps League in Red Hill.
In his civilian life, he worked in the technology field, and in retirement, as a substitute teacher in the North Penn School District.
Tom had many interests, loving music, reading, sports and The Boston Red Sox. His most heartfelt commitment was to animal rescue, large and small. Over the years, he loved and sheltered countless cats (favorite breed Siamese), a dozen greyhounds, and 4 horses. They were grateful to him. He was even more grateful to them.
Tom was born in Lewiston Maine, to parents Earl and Margaret (Kirvan) Barron.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Rebecca, Stephanie and Jonathan;
5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; and siblings Charlie, Michael and Jane. Also survived by his beloved greyhound Blade, and cats Rodeo, Reckless, Gunny and Shadow.
Tom will be received and honored at Arlington National Cemetery in a private ceremony.
Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home in East Greenville, PA.
