Russell S. Godshall, 81, of Green Lane, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of Mary (Sieber) Godshall. They had celebrated 57 years of marriage this past June.
Born in Vernfield, PA, he was a son of the late Jacob B. and Emma (Samsel) Godshall.
Russell attended East Greenville High School. After high school, he served as a cook in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a Leadman for Superior Tube, Collegeville for 44 years.
Russell was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sumneytown. He was a life member of the Green Lane Fire Co.; a member of the USWA local # 6816, where he served several terms as a recording secretary. Russell enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening and flowers, was a bird watcher and animal lover.
He was a great baseball player and played on the American Legion League and the Green Lane Twilight baseball league during the early 1950’s.
Surviving along with his wife are two sisters, Sara Shellaway, Red Hill and Mae, wife of Carl Mogel, Schwenksville; two sister-in-laws, Eva Godshall, Red Hill and Elsie Godshall, Harleysville; one brother-in-law, Martin Sieber and his wife, Dolly, Green Lane and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by eight brothers, LeRoy, Harold, Howard, Richard, Ernest, Wilmer, Stanley Godshall and an infant brother; and three sisters, Gladys Merkel, Beulah Yerk and Mary Godshall.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, September 6, 2013 at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA 18041. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 11:00am until 12:00 Noon on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be private in Holy Cross Cemetery.
