ROY A WHITE, 71, of Palmer Township, PA passed away at the home of his daughter on Monday, April 4, 2022. Family were present for his peaceful journey home.
Mr. White was born in Sharon, PA to the late William E. White Sr. and Shirley Anne (Artman) White. He was a member of the Oakland Ave. Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He was a Sunday School and summer Bible School teacher and participated in many church activities including the Oakland Ave. Church Softball League. Though he was transferred numerous times, he maintained his faith and joined other social and civic organizations, as well as always finding time to coach all his children in their numerous sports.
Roy graduated from Sharon High School in 1968 where he was a starting player for the Sharon HS Tigers. At Grove City College, he continued his Basketball skills for the GCC Wolverines and was a member of the GCC ROTC during his college years, graduating with a BS in 1972.
Mr. White began his career in the water industry digging ditches during the summer months for Shenango Valley Water Co. in Western PA. Upon graduation from GCC, he was hired as the new cross-connection officer.
Mr. white was transferred to the Buffalo, NY area in 1976 as assistant manager for the Wanaka Water Company in Hamburg, NY, eventually becoming manager.
In 1985 he was again transferred; this time to Central PA as general manager for the Roaring Creek Water Company in Shamokin, PA. Within 8 years, he was an assistant vice-president but chose to leave the private sector.
In 1995 he joined the Easton Suburban Water Authority in Easton, PA as assistant manager until the retirement of the acting general manager when he would assume that position. Roy always referred to ESWA as his dream job and having made the move to eastern pa to be the right one for him. He knew there was potential there for a small water authority to be brought up to date and the presenting challenges that he would face. He never doubted he would not succeed nor that ESWA would become the strong, profitable and successful company it is today. Having been named Executive Director years before, he was proud of his accomplishments and the management team, staff, maintenance and distribution teams he had assembled, ever confident they would continue the standards, goals and professionalism he had set.
All in all, Mr. White had approximately 50 years in the water industry. Mr. White's official retirement date was December 31,2021.
Roy is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 52 years, Delores Ann (Hollopeter); two daughters, Kimberly Ann of Green Lane, PA and Carrie Lyn of Johnston, RI; his son Derek Leroy White and wife, Kelly; and his most adored grandchildren; Anjolina D., Derek Roy and Nathan James, all of Barto, PA and Emily Sarah (White) Bouzaout and husband, Rami of Catasauqua, PA; and one step-grandson, Gabrielle Robert of Philadelphia, PA.
