Roderick W. Wood, 67, husband of Lusandre L. (Chaudruc) Wood and widower of Wendy Marian Walker (Naylor) Wood, of James Road, Pennsburg, died on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Born in Quakertown, he was a son of the late David and Dorothy (Wienandt) Wood.
Rod was the founder and owner of The Hearthstone Town & Country Newspaper; an English teacher, former Vice Chairman and member of the Board of Trustees, and a 1963 graduate of Perkiomen School; a 1967 graduate of Trinity College with a degree in philosophy; he ran the family dairy farm and was Vice President of Wood Young & Company.
He was the President of the Upper Perkiomen Valley Republican Club and a longtime Committeeman and served on the Upper Hanover Township Board of Supervisors. He was a member of Palm Schwenkfelder Church, the Valley Choral Society and Saucon Valley Country Club.
Surviving along with his wife, are a son R. Ian Wood, twin brother Harry C. Wood and his wife Linda, all of Pennsburg; a niece Sara L. Wood of Sterling, VA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. Edwin Naylor and his wife Judith and nephews Michael and Grant Naylor, all of Charleston, SC; and stepson Sean K. Smith of Scarsdale, NY.
The funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. on Monday, September 24, 2012 at Palm Schwenkfelder Church, 833 Gravel Pike, Palm with Rev. Nicholas L. Pence, Pastor of the church officiating. Assisting are The Rev. Lisa Keppeler of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Quakertown and The Very Rev. Anthony R. Pompa of Catherdral Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem. Burial follows at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hill. A visitation will be held 7 to 8 p.m. on Sunday evening at the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville and also 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday morning at the church prior to the service.
