Robert A. Flexer, 79, of Emmaus, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2018 in his home. He and his wife, Miriam (Stauffer) Flexer would have shared 55 years of marriage on August 3rd. Robert was born on August 26, 1938 in Upper Milford Township, Lehigh County, to the late Clarence “Jim” and Emma (Schmeltzle) Flexer. Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother who cherished the time he spent with his family. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments. All who knew him will remember him for his laugh and his quick wit.
Robert worked as a heavy equipment operator throughout the Lehigh Valley for over 44 years, before retiring from Schlouch, Inc. in 2000. His former employers included C.T. Flexer Estates, H.R. Kline Petroleum, John Hillegass Excavating, Petroleum Contractors, and Gordon Baver, Inc. He enjoyed being out in the fresh air and listening to bluegrass gospel music. He was a longtime member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Zionsville, PA, where he served as a former church trustee.
Surviving along with his wife are three sons, Blaine Flexer and wife, Cheryl of Fogelsville, Travis Flexer and wife, Christina of Alburtis, Emery Flexer and wife, Monaca of Emmaus; brothers: Clinton Flexer and wife, Patricia, James Flexer, husband of the late Lois, and Kenneth Flexer and wife, Karen, all of Emmaus; three grandchildren, Nathan, Jacob and Thomas; three sisters-in-law, Alice Arndt, wife of the late Aurel, Merle, wife of Richard Leh, and Norma, wife of Richard Flexer; a brother-in-law, Russell Stauffer; and many nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by a sister, Joyce Herb and her husband, the late Harold and a sister-in-law, Blanche Stauffer.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Salem United Methodist Church, 6440 Powder Valley Rd., Zionsville, PA 18092. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 10 to 11 am at the church prior to the service.
