Richard F.F. Werkheiser, of East Greenville, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Grand View Hospital. He was 86 years old. He was the loving husband of the late, Virginia E. (Borowski) Werkheiser, sharing 62 years of marriage together before her passing in 2016.
Born in Palmerton, PA, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Edna (Diehl) Werkheiser.
Richard was a graduate of Palmerton High School and also a graduate of Muhlenberg College and Temple University, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Education. Richard was a science teacher for 50 years, teaching at the Upper Perkiomen High School and retiring from the Perkiomen Prep School. During his years of teaching, he also was coaching track, basketball and football.
He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan and enjoyed landscaping and attending jazz concerts.
Surviving are his two children, Terri, wife of Peter Loux of Souderton, PA and Mark Werkheiser and wife, Kelley of Houston, TX ; a daughter in law, Mary Werkheiser of Virginia Beach, VA; 5 grandchildren, Cole, Casey, Hannah, Zachary and Samuel; and two sisters, Catherine Werkheiser and Miriam Ross. In addition to his wife, he is predeceased by a son, Kurt Werkheiser; and two siblings, Anne Marie Choy and Alice Costenbander.
A memorial service will be held at 5 pm on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington St., East Greenville, PA. There will be a visitation from 3 to 4:45 PM at the funeral home prior the service.
