Richard A. Smith, Sr., 85, of Green Lane, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 in Grand View Hospital, Sellersville. He was the husband of June F. (Hess) Smith celebrating 58 years of marriage on September 25, 2012.
Born in Anson, Maine, he was a son of the late Alfred L. and Eva M. (Wescott) Smith.
He was a Tool & Die Maker of specialty and custom parts and founded Richard A. Smith & Sons in Green Lane in 1968.
He was a proud Veteran serving as a Seaman First Class in the Merchant Marine during World War II and as a Corporal in the Army during the Korean War.
He was a longtime member of Frieden’s United Church of Christ in Sumneytown. He was also the sponsor and bowler on the R.A. Smith & Sons Bowling Team since 1973. He was a life member of the Green Lane Fire Company and a member of the American Legion Post #184, East Greenville and the East Greenville Fire Company.
Surviving along with his wife, are four children; Sheila D., wife of Gary L. Freed of Pennsburg, Michael A. Smith, Richard A. Smith, Jr. and wife, Ruth Ann and Shari D. Smith, all of Green Lane; a sister, Effie M. Redmond of North Anson, Maine; grandchildren, great grandchildren and many extended family . Along with his parents, he is predeceased by brothers, Willie, Ivan, Morris and Lyman; sister, Mae Corey and an infant sister.
