Raymond Christman Heimbach 98, of Zionsville, PA, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family on March 23, 2024. He is predeceased by his wife Joan K. (Pennebacker) Heimbach. He is survived by his children, Raymond P. Heimbach, Kim P Heimbach and her husband Mark A. Schneider, and Scott P. Heimbach and his wife Demi and their children Grace and Maximus.
Raymond was born in East Greenville, PA, July 17, 1925 to the late Raymond William Heimbach and Glenna Viola (Christman) Heimbach.
Surviving siblings include Lorraine H. Lamberton of Phoenix, AZ, Dorothy J. Hemmerle of Emmaus, PA. and Larry L. Heimbach of East Greenville.
In addition to his wife and parents he is predeceased by siblings, Frances G. Gendebien, Myrtle A. Pernik, Joyce V. Whiteford, Jeannette L. Harwick and Gordon S. Heimbach.
Raymond graduated from East Greenville High School in 1943. He was a member of the High School Band orchestra, Glee Club and played basketball and was team captain his senior year.
Raymond entered Penn State for one semester, after which he served in the U.S. Navy till 1946. While in the Navy he attended Wright Jr. College and Texas A&M. He returned to Penn State after military discharge and received a B.S. in Science and Agriculture Ed. While at Penn State he was a member of AGR FFA, ATA, and Phi Kappa. After graduating he taught AG and Biology at Kutztown High School, where he served on the faculty committee to draft the initial “Philosophy and Objectives” for Kutztown School District. He was livestock chairman of the Kutztown Fair and served on the Board. While teaching he earned a Master of Science degree from Penn State.
He left teaching after seven years and joined the office staff of the Pennebacker Company, Emmaus, PA. He returned to teaching science at Owen J. Roberts School District. He served on the committee that drafted the initial “Philosophy and Objectives” for the OJR School District.
Raymond’s favorite activities included patio parties with family, Penn State football, skiing, gardening, and riding horses with his daughter. He was very much loved and will be missed.
Services will be held privately. Arrangements entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville, PA.
