Ray Funk

June 19, 1928 — February 2, 2018

Ray George Funk, 89, of Boyertown, went be with the Lord and his dear late wife, Dolores P. “Dolly” (Fogel) Funk, Friday, February 2, 2018.

Born in Henningsville, PA, he was a son of the late George A. and Sadie A. (Fox) Funk.

Ray proudly served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1953 going overseas twice during the Korean War. He was honored with the Distinguished Ambassador of Peace Medal in 2016 for his dedicated service.

After being honorably discharged, Ray became employed with BF Goodrich for over 30 years until his retirement.

Ray was a faithful member of Huff’s Union Church, Alburtis, PA, where he and his wife planted all the flowers around the church for many years. He also helped with everything “behind scenes”such as cleaning and taking care of the church park for all of the picnics. He was a lifetime member of the Topton American Legion Post 217 and a sponsor of the National Museum of the United States Army in Fort Belvoir, VA that will open this year. He was also a member of the Mertztown Rod and Gun Club and the Pike Township Sportsman Association.

Ray enjoyed attending country concerts and was lucky enough to travel to all 50 states.

A loving father, pop-pop, brother, uncle and friend he is survived by his two children, William C. Funk and Lisa R., wife of Scott Kauffman; grandson, Tyler C. Kauffman and companion, Amanda Murphy; step-granddaughter, Kylie Murphy; sister, Betty Reed; sister-in-law, Ethel Funk; and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is predeceased by brothers, Clarence, Donald and Noel Funk; and sisters, Ruth Austrevich and Grace Derr.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Huff’s Union Church, 540 Conrad Road, Alburtis, PA 18011 with Rev. Jane Kropa officiating. Burial follows in Huff’s Union Cemetery where the Topton American Legion Post 217 will honor him. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 9:00 to 11:15 AM at the church.
