Ray A. “Archie” Conway, 81, widower of Jeanette M. (Kline) Conway, of Walt Road, Pennsburg, died Monday, February 27, 2012 at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest.
Born in East Greenville, he was a son of the late Archer and Mamie (Seibert) Conway.
Archie was a delivery person for the former Brunner’s Bakery, then worked in production at Firestone and retired as a custodian from the Upper Perkiomen School District in the 1990s.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of the VFW Post #5954 and the American Legion Post #184 where he had been a Post Commander. He also loved baseball and coached in the Connie Mack League and supported the American Legion Baseball team. He was an avid Phillies fan and traveled to their spring training camp in Clearwater, FL every year. He also enjoyed football and loved walking.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Carol D., wife of Daniel Kile of Pennsburg, Lori M., wife of Randy Wilson of Pennsburg and Debra R. Conway of East Greenville; a son, Bruce R. Conway and his wife, Lizette of Madison, Connecticut; a sister, Joyce, wife of Robert Sine of Red Hill; 7 grandchildren, Stacy, Hope, Bobby, Heather, Jason, Lena and Luke; 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Along with his wife and parents, he is predeceased by two sisters, Marian Green and Doris Conway, a brother, William and a grandson, Joshua Wilson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville. Burial in the Washington Crossing National Cemetery will be private.
