Pauline A. (Schwenk) Stelmach, 88, of Quakertown, PA, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at home with her daughter by her side. She was the loving wife of the late Stanley W. Stelmach, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage before his passing in April of 2012.
Born in Upper Milford Township, PA, she was the proud eldest daughter of nine siblings of the late Clarence T. and Dorothy R. (Trump) Schwenk.
Pauline attended Quakertown High School for a year before she had to quit school at the age of 15 and help at home. At 16, she started to work at Quakertown Hospital as a nurse’s aide and then at 18 she went to work at Millers Convalescent Home in Zion Hill as the head cook. Lastly, she became a sewing machine operator, working at both Milford Square Pant’s Factory and Imrod Pants Factory in Quakertown before becoming a homemaker after the birth of her daughter, Rosemarie.
She was a girl scout leader, Sunday school and Bible school teacher and home room parent when Rosemarie was in school. She enjoyed preserving fruits and vegetables, baking, sewing clothes for herself and Rosemarie and crocheting.
She was a member of West Swamp Mennonite Church in Quakertown and enjoyed attending Community Bible Fellowship Church in Red Hill.
Surviving are a daughter, Rosemarie, wife of Stephen Rush of Quakertown; two grandchildren, Matthew Rush and wife, Melissa and Heather, wife of Michael Kauffman; six great grandchildren, Courtney, Lyndsey and Alayna Rush and Lydia, Clint and Naomi Kauffman; and three brothers, Galen, Richard and Larry Schwenk.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by a sister, Kay Moyer; and brothers, Carlton, Homer, Edward and Robert Schwenk.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA. Interment follows in West Swamp Mennonite Cemetery, Quakertown. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9 to 10:45 AM at the funeral home.
