Pauline L. “Polly” (Yerk) Freed, 90, widow of Harold C. Freed, of Red Hill and formerly of Sumneytown; passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Quakertown Center.
Born in Hoppenville, she was a daughter of the late Herbert C. and Verna Mae (Leister) Yerk.
She worked as a Group Leader in the Optical Centering department of the former Plummer Precision Optics for 23 years retiring in 1983. Prior to that she had been a Floor Lady at the former Rosenau Brothers and also worked at the former Red Hill Pants Factory.
Polly was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Red Hill and was a charter member of the VFW Post #5954 in Red Hill and a member and Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW.
She will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Dawn E., wife of Kenneth E. Hauck, Jr. of Boyertown and Roxanne G. Freed of Red Hill; two sisters, Grace Freed and Elizabeth Dickerson, both of Red Hill; two half-brothers, Ronald Yerk of Pennsburg and Richard Yerk of Washington State; two grandchildren, Ashley, wife of Victor Williams of Macungie and Eric Hauck of Boyertown; 3 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren. Along with her husband and parents she is predeceased by two sisters, Daisy Parrish and Dorothy Meyers and a brother, Lamar “Dutch” Yerk, Sr.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA with Vicar Phillip Waselik officiating. Burial follows in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hill. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening and also from 10 to 11 .am.
