Paul Barndt

September 28, 1929 — September 9, 2013

Paul W. Barndt, Sr., 83, of Frederick Living and formerly of Green Lane, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013 at his home. He was married to the late Gwendolyn (Schaffer) Barndt who passed away in June of 2009. They were married for 56 years.

Paul entered the real estate and insurance business in 1949 and made his career in that field. In 1963 he opened his own office, The Barndt Agency, on Main Street in Sumneytown which is still in operation and run by his son, Paul Barndt, Jr.

He was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sumneytown, where he served on many committees including Chairman of the Construction Committee which built the new church in 1958. He also chaired the committee for the addition of the fellowship hall and educational wing in 1980.
Active in community affairs, he served twelve years as a member of the Upper Perkiomen School Board, 3 years as President.

He was a Charter Member of the Green Lane-Marlboro Lions Club and served in many offices including president for three years and club secretary for thirty-one years. On the district level (Montgomery County) he served as Zone Chairman, Region Chairman, Vice District Governor and District Governor in 2011-12. Along with the Lions, he was one of the organizers of the Community Ambulance Services of Green Lane.

Surviving are a daughter, Andrea, wife of Charles Roney of Hatfield; son, Paul W. Barndt, Jr. and wife, Shelley of Green Lane; a sister, Ruth, widow of Harry Moore, III of Philadelphia and five grandchildren, Conal Roney, Andrew Roney and wife, Maedea, Ryan Barndt and fiancée, Chelsey Yoder, Alyssa Barndt and Sara Barndt.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 3104 Main Street, Sumneytown with Rev. Rebecca Eisenhart. Burial is private. There is no calling hour prior to the service.
