Miriam Sampayo

January 15, 1922 — February 5, 2012

Miriam E. (Trumbore) Sampayo, 90, of Red Hill, and formerly of East Greenville, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Phoebe Richland Health Care Center, Richlandtown Borough.

Born in Pennsburg she was a daughter of the late Howard H. and Edith E. (Pflieger) Trumbore.

She was a registered nurse for 30 years, retiring in 1987. She worked for Grand View Hospital in Sellersville, Reading Hospital in West Reading and St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem. For several years she taught LPN courses at Montco Vo-Tech School until the program moved to Northampton Community College she was a Patient Education Coordinator for Grand View Bucks County and started all of their nursing Education Programs until the nursing school closed. She also taught in a 3 year Diploma Program in Philadelphia.

After retiring, she worked in the Upper Perkiomen Valley as Traveling Community Nurse for several years, for the Bucks Co. Vo-Tech School Career Letter Program for 5 years and she worked part time as a Pharmacy Technician and for Brensinger’s Pharmacy, Pennsburg.

After graduating from Upper Perkiomen School District she was a 1942 graduate in the three year nursing program, she earned her B.S.N. from University of Pittsburgh in 1948. She then earned her M.S.N. from University of Pennsylvania in 1967.

She was a member of Business and Professional Women’s Club, where she served as President and Vice President, Secretary, Secretary Treasurer, Historian and obtained chairmanship in the chapter at the National Convention. She was Rec Sec for District II “Woman Of The Year” Upper Perkiomen Business and Professional Women’s Club since 1948. She served on the Upper Perkiomen School District Board for 22 years, serving as Vice-President from 1983 to 1993 and President from 1993 to 1996, 1950-60 member of Upper Perk Ambulance Association and volunteered as nurse on call, served on GHBD of Aux. for eight years, volunteered at Upper Perk School District to help teach reading to the students. She was a World War II Veteran serving as a nurse in the U.S. Navy as Lt. and Lt. Junior Grade in Philadelphia.

She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Ann Mennel and husband, Alan of Moorestown, NJ; a daughter-in-law MaryAnn E. Sampayo of East Greenville; four grandchildren, Gary A. Sampayo, Valerie Ann Yoder, Pamela Ann and Kimberly Mennel; two great grandchildren, Sabrina Marie and Justin Yoder;
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Hector M. Sampayo, Jr., siblings, Ruth Trumbore, Arthur Trumbore, Ethel Tettemer and Esther Wentling.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Community Bible Fellowship Church, 426 Main St., Red Hill, PA 18076 with Rev. James Arcieri officiating.
