Mildred Kreiger

September 23, 1927 — February 14, 2011

Mildred R. Kreiger, 83, of Frederick, formerly of Newtown Square and Hazleton, died Monday, February 14, 2011 at Frederick Mennonite Community.

Born in Hazleton, PA, she was a daughter of the late Tecumseh D. and Florence M. (Horn) Kreiger.

She was a Registered Nurse working at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia for 44 years retiring in 1992. She was a 1948 graduate of Lankenau Nursing School and was actively involved in their Alumni Association. She then earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Chester University in 1976.

She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, Hazleton, and actively attended Frieden’s United Church of Christ, Sumneytown, where she sang in the choir and played in the bell choir.

She was an avid photographer, reader, sports enthusiast, played golf, loved music and dogs and has traveled to Alaska, Bermuda, Hawaii, Florida, Italy, the National Parks, British Columbia, Canadian Rockies, and took a family cruise to Nova Scotia. While living at Frederick Mennonite Community, she was active in the Red Hat Club and the book clubs.

She was faithful in spending time with her family and attending family events. She is survived by a sister, Elise Kreiger of Worcester, MA; a brother, Forrest D. Kreiger and wife, Elizabeth, of Douglassville; four nieces, Susan, wife of Homer Royer of East Greenville, Brenda, wife of Peter Pardun of Maytown, Diane, wife of Robert Tipping of Green Lane, and Kathy, wife of Joseph Perelli of Bath; 14 great nieces and nephews and 3 great great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Frieden’s United Church of Christ, 1011 Church Road, Sumneytown, with Rev. Cheryl A. Stoneback and Rev. Homer E. Royer, Jr. officiating. Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. A private interment will be held at Mt. Laurel Memorial Park, Hazleton.
