Michael Chobot

September 27, 1924 — December 11, 2021

Michael Chobot, of East Greenville, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at home with family by his side. He was 97 years old. He was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth T. Chobot.

Born in Pennsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Anna (Harvat) Chobot.

Michael proudly served his country as a Private First Class in the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army during WWII from May 15, 1943 to January 16, 1946. He distinguished himself as a Mortar Gunmen in the Battles of Rhineland Ardennes during the Central Europe Campaigns. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Theater Service Medal, European Service Medal with 3 Battle Stars, and a Victory Medal. While in combat during the Battle of Rhineland, Private Chobot, engaged the enemy and fired 60MM mortars at the enemy’s position. His unit destroyed the enemy’s position. He then assisted in the capture and holding of enemy personnel while still offering support to other allied units.

After honorable discharge, he worked at C&D Battery in Conshohocken, PA for 33 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Philip Neri R.C. Church in Pennsburg and the East Greenville Fire Co.

Surviving are his two daughters, Patricia Chobot of East Greenville with whom he resided and Jane Benninger of Bath; 3 granddaughters, April, Nicole, Jodi; four great-granddaughters, Lauren, Sadie, Karissa and Alanna; one great-grandson, Dylan; two great-great-grandsons; and one great-great -granddaughter. In addition to his wife and parents, he is predeceased by eight siblings, Andrew, Tonka, Anna, Joseph, August, George, Stella and John; and a son in law, Dale.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at St. Philip Neri R.C. Church, 1325 Klinerd Rd., Pennsburg, PA 18073. A burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Pennsburg where military honors will be rendered for his honorable and faithful service to his Country. A viewing will be held from 9 to 9:45 AM at the church. Arrangements entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 East Greenville, PA 18041.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Philip Neri R.C. Church.
