Melvin E. Haas, 79, of Westfield and formerly of East Greenville, died April 21, 2014 in Wellsboro. He was the husband of Jean L. (Schultz) Derr Haas celebrating 17 years of marriage on June 7, 2013 and the late Virginia F. (Burgess) Haas.
Born in New Hanover Township, he was a son of the late Percival and Luella (Schoenly) Haas.
He was a peacetime veteran of the United States Army.
He was a Maintenance Mechanic at Philco Ford in Lansdale for 30 years retiring in 1999. He also worked as an auctioneer in the Upper Perkiomen Valley and the surrounding areas for many years.
Surviving along with his wife are four children, Theresa Haas of Bechtelsville, Judith, wife of Wade Houck of Mohrsville, Heidi, wife of Louis Burgert of Pennsburg and Keith Haas and partner, Hilary Tracy of Bechtelsville; two brothers, Curtis Haas and wife, Nancy of Boyertown and Larry Haas and wife, Georgette of Sabinsville; four grandchildren, Justine Gery of Hudson Falls, NY, Josef Gery and wife, Ray Ann of Macungie and Matthew and Paige Burgert of Pennsburg; 2 great grandchildren, MarkJames Snyder and Draven Gery; step-son, Brian Derr and wife, Dawn of Fleetwood; two step-grandchildren, Brandon and Kenneth Derr; nephew, Robert Haas and niece, Donna Haas. Along with his first wife and parents, he is predeceased by a sister, Fern L. Haas and a nephew, Larry Scott Haas.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Friday at the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville. Burial follows in Christ Union Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Offer sympathy to the family at www.mannslonakerfuneralhome.com.
