Margie Akins, 83, of Gilbertsville, PA, passed away peacefully at her home (Magic Venture Farm) surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 4, 2022. She was the widow of Paul DeWalt Akins II.
Born in Sassamansville, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Emma (Miller) Shoenly. Margie was a graduate of the class of 1956 at Boyertown High School. She was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to caring and raising her family, she was a crossing guard at Gilbertsville Elementary School.
Family came first for Margie, always ensuring that plenty of Oreo cookies and milk were available. She also loved Bingo, Elvis, country music and playing Hasenpfeffer(a Pennsylvania Dutch card game).
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Leslye and husband Larry Schmitz, Lloyd, Karen, Mark and wife Barbara; daughter-in-law, Renee; grandchildren: Ashley, Shelby and husband Zach, Erin, Abbey, Paige and Cody; great-grandchildren: Cole, Jaxson, Piper, Saylor and Asher; sisters: Nancy and Alice. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Paul D. Akins III and siblings: Paul, Willard and Ethel.
