Lillian (Hunter) Miller passed away Monday evening, March 27, 2017. She was 86 years old and was the daughter of the late David Hunter and Bertha (Kemp) Hunter. Born on January 5, 1931 she lived her entire life in the village of Huff’s Church, PA until 2015 when she moved to Luther Meadows in Topton. Lilly had 2 sisters, Mae (Hunter) Fritch, who is deceased, and Fern (Hunter) Hoffman. She also had a brother, Leroy, who is deceased.
As a child she attended the one room school house in Huff’s Church and later was a student at Boyertown High School in the Class of 1949 (one of the 49ers). After attending Bryland Institute of Beauty Culture in Reading, Lilly had a long career as a beautician and worked well into her 70’s, first in a shop at her home, later in her good friend Barbara Erb’s beauty shop, and later still, doing the hair of the ladies at the Lutheran Home at Topton and Luther Crest in Allentown. She was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Bally, PA.
Lilly married Joseph Miller on May 5, 1952 and they lived happily until he passed in 2012 (just shy of 60 years)! Lilly’s immediate family includes her son David Miller and his wife Joanne Lapic, grandson Jackson Miller and his wife Jennifer Miller, granddaughter Mikhaila Lapic-Lloyd and friend Jake Bullock, and great grandchildren Alexandria, Savannah and Joseph Miller.
Lilly loved everything purple. She decorated her house in the color purple, most of her clothes were that color, and if you got a gift from her, chances are it would be purple. She also collected thimbles and knick knacks of all sorts. She loved country music, especially Conway Twitty. She was very proud of her extensive picture albums and her house was always meticulously clean and organized. Summertime would find her working in the large flower beds around her house. Those who met Lilly might have found her quiet and shy at first, but in time her sharp wit and keen sense of humor would shine through. In her last months she enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her friends at Luther Meadows.
Lilly would have preferred to stay here among us, but in the end was ready to join her loving husband, Joe. They are now together again.
