Leroy Rothenberger

April 28, 1924 — January 31, 2012

Leroy Rothenberger, 87, husband of Beatrice F. (Miller) Rothenberger, of Pennsburg, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 in his home. He and his wife celebrated 65 years of marriage this past April.

Born in Pennsburg, he was a son of the late William H. and Emma (Edleman) Rothenberger and a stepson of the late Lizzie (Becker) Rothenberger.

He was a self-employed plumbing and heating contractor for 25 years, and also an officer and tradesman instructor at Graterford Prison for 12 years, retiring in the 1984.

Leroy was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran serving as a Platoon Sergeant during World War II in the South Pacific.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Niantic. He was a life member of the Pennsburg Fire Company and the VFW Post #5954, and a member of the American Legion Post #184, the Marine Corps League, 40/8, and the Owls Nest #1302.

Surviving along with his wife are a daughter, Diane L. Bouwkamp and husband, John of Adelphi, MD; two sons, Dennis R. Rothenberger and wife, Renee of East Greenville and Leroy Rothenberger, Jr. and wife, Diane of Beaver Creek, OH; a sister, June Reigner and husband, Harold of Pennsburg; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Lynn, Deborah, Katherine, Tara, Adam, Joshua, and Nicholas; and nine great grandchildren, Wesley, Kaia, Dylan, Drue, Maya, Kaleb, Gavin, Caleb, and Sloan.

He was predeceased by a brother, Lloyd H. Rothenberger and a sister, Dorothy Fosnocht.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville with Rev Susan Lynch officiating. Burial will be private. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
