Leonida (Michaud) Loftus, 92, widow of James B. Loftus, originally from Philadelphia, PA and formerly of Green Lane, PA died on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at LifeQuest Nursing Center, Quakertown, PA.
Born in St. Leonard, New Brunswick, Canada, she was a daughter of the late Leo and Marguerite (Thibodeau) Michaud.
For several years through her 20’s and into her late 30’s she was employed by Eddie’s Grill and Jarvis Department Store in New Brunswick, Canada, prior to marrying and moving to the US in 1958. She was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Pennsburg where she served on the Altar and Rosary Society and the Grandparents Guild of Sacred Heart Association. She was an avid Philadelphia sports teams fan, loved playing the organ at home and crocheting for her friends and family.
Surviving are children, James M. Loftus, formerly of Green Lane, PA and now residing in of Catasauqua, PA and Rita Marie Steffenino, and her husband, Michael of Green Lane, PA; grandchildren, Dylan, Dante and Dustin Steffenino; brothers, Laurent and Fernand Michaud of Montreal, Canada; sisters, Juliet Belanger of New Brunswick, Canada, Sister Rita Michaud “O.S.U.” of the Ursuline Sisters, Quebec, Canada, Mona Marsh of Riverside, CA, Claudette Jackson of Norristown, PA, Annette Renaud of Montreal, Canada and step-sister, Jacqueline Deroshers of Montreal, Canada. Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her stepmother, Bertha LeBel Michaud and siblings, Leonard, Onile, Aurele, Joel, Evette, Freda and Laurette.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 1, 2012 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 1325 Klinerd Road, Pennsburg, PA with Rev. Robert A. Roncase officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Pennsburg. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the church.
