Lawrence Weitzel

Lawrence G. “Larry” Weitzel, 73, of Harleysville, died Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia. He was the husband of Margaret L. (Hoesterey) Weitzel observing their 50 years of marriage on April 15, 2011.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late George L. and Dorothy M. (Smith) Weitzel.
He was an ardent baseball player who graduated from Upper Perkiomen High School, Class of 1956. He attended Pierce Business College, Philadelphia and Ursinus College, Collegeville, majoring in economics. He was in the United States Army Reserve from 1961 to 1967.
He worked as a credit manager and office manager for Link-Belt Co., Colmar, FMC Finance Corporation a subsidiary FMC Corporation, Chicago, IL as Eastern Regional Manager, CrossLand Credit Corporation, and until his death he was employed as Fiscal Operations Officer, Office of Children and Youth, Montgomery County. For many years he worked part time during tax season for H&R Block.
He enjoyed fishing, baseball, trains, model railroading, photography, tennis and enjoyed the outdoors and bird watching. His most proud accomplishment was being a father, friend and mentor to daughter Christine. His greatest joy was his grandchildren. They were his pride and joy from the minute they were born and he spent every available minute teaching them everything he knew.
Along with his wife, surviving are a daughter, Christine R. and husband, Timothy P. Dunigan, III of Lansdale; grandsons, T. Patrick Dunigan, IV and Mark Lawrence Dunigan of Lansdale; a brother James R. Weitzel of Lansdale; a sister Arlene Moyer of Sellersville; two aunts and an uncle; multiple nieces and nephews and their children.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Noon, on Monday, October 3, 2011 at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington St., East Greenville, PA with Rev. Antonio L. Villareal officiating. Friends and family are invited to visit from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m., Noon. Burial will be in New Goshenhoppen Cemetery, East Greenville.
