Joyce V. White, 82, of York Twp., passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Homeland Hospice in the Memory Care unit at Seaton Springwood, York, PA. She was the beloved and devoted wife of James H. “Jim” White Sr. for over 30 years.
She was born on September 29, 1941 at the British Army Hospital in Jubbolapor, India to the late Andrew and Beryl M. (Hankins) Leith. She graduated from Prince Edward’s School in Wilmerding, Surrey, England. She then attended and graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Chemistry. She came to the US in 1963 and worked in the lab at Durkee Foods, Bethlehem, PA.
She left Durkee Foods and was employed as a clerk at the Orefield Post Office. There, she took the test to become Post Master and was subsequently appointed to the position. In 1980, she was promoted to Post Master in Center Valley and remained in the position until retiring in 2003. She was active in numerous postal organizations. She was also a member of the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission, and served a term on Upper Saucon Twp. Board of Supervisors.
Joyce was a member of Faith U.C.C., Center Valley, where she sang in the Choir and served as a Consistory member. In 2009, she and Jim decided to expand their horizons and purchase a Bed and Breakfast called
The White House in Forksville, Sullivan County. The home boasted 20 rooms on 10 and ½ acres. They raised miniature donkeys and pygmy goats on the property along with their 2 dogs and 3 cats. While there, they were members of Forksville U.M.C. where she sang in the choir. As they got older, they decided to sell the B&B and relocate to a smaller home in York County.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Mark Lutz; daughter, Tracy Lutz; step-son, Jim White, Jr. and wife, Kim; step-daughter, Ellen Meyers and husband, Jeremy; one grandson, Lennon Lutz; four step-grandchildren, Brendan, Colin, Justin and Jessica; and a brother, Duncan Leith.
She is predeceased by a sister, Liz Vrana; and sister-in-law, Jenny Leith, wife of brother Duncan.
Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 11 AM at Faith U.C.C., 5992 PA-378, Center Valley, PA 18034. A time to visit with the family will begin at 10 AM at the church prior to the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville.
