John P. Overholtzer, Jr., 76, of Bechtelsville, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Frederick Living. He was the loving husband of Georgia C. (Texter) Overholtzer, sharing 50 years of marriage together.
Born in Lansdale on October 11, 1943, he was the son of the late John “Paul” Overholtzer, Sr. and Helene (Dean) Faul.
John was a 1961 graduate of North Penn High School and then worked for Harleysville Insurance for 42 years in the programming department.
Throughout John’s life, he found great enjoyment in spending time by and on the water fishing. He was a member of the Delaware Valley Surf Fishing Association and the Hatteras Beach Buggy Association. He was also an avid hunter, tolerated golf and loved traveling and playing cards.
Through John and Georgia’s many adventures and their many winters in Florida, he developed several valued friendships with people from Canada and across the US. From hosting annual picnics to planning vacations to organizing fishing trips; creating memorable moments for his family and many friends was another of his life’s pleasures.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Paulene (Overholtzer) Orner and husband, Charles; nephew, Ken Orner and wife, Patti O’Brien; three nieces, Sherry Poinsett and husband, Bob, Bonnie Croll and husband, Dan and Kimberly Wise and husband, David; brother-in-law, Charles Texter and wife, Janet; many great nieces and great nephews; and his beloved cockapoo, Brandy.

Please join the family to celebrate John’s life on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Spring Valley Village Community Center on Eagles Watch in Bechtelsville (67 Stauffer Rd, Bechtelsville, PA 1950). Visitation begins at 12:00 noon. All are welcome to stay for lunch as we join in fellowship to remember and share our stories. (The entrance to Spring Valley Village is at the intersection of Route 100 and Stauffer Rd.)
