John Gilmore

March 5, 1948 — March 14, 2024

John A. Gilmore, 76, of Pennsburg, passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at St. Luke’s Upper Bucks Campus. He was the loving husband of Theresa M. (Sammartino) Gilmore with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late John L. and Sarah R. (McGinley) Gilmore.

After graduating in 1967 from Archbishop Wood High School, John went on to earn bachelor degrees in both History and Accounting from St. Joseph’s University. He began a career as a financial associate, working in Allentown and Reading before becoming employed at The Vanguard Group in 1993. He retired in 2013.

John was a faithful and active member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Pennsburg where he had served as an Extraordinary Minister, and most recently as a Lector and adult altar server. He was a man of quiet faith and had a great devotion to our Blessed Mother. He was a most loving husband, dedicated father and grandfather, a true Knight and gentleman.

He was a member of Leo J. Letterhouse Council #6614 Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight in 2010, and continued to hold an important position. He was the Faithful Navigator of the 4th degree Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Assembly #3046; Former District Deputy, Delegate of the KofC Supreme convention, and Regional Program Chairman for the State. “He was regarded as ‘Mr. KofC’ to many in district 22 in the Tri-county area. His Fraternal knowledge, compassion and friendship will be sorely missed by all.”

He also served as a Boy Scout Leader to St. Philip Neri Boy Scout Troop #591 in East Greenville where he was also known as “Captain Jack” during which time his son, Arthur, attained the rank of Eagle Scout. John continued to be involved with the Scouts for some time after.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Arthur J. Gilmore and wife, Sue, Angela M. Gilmore and Cheryl A. Gilmore; grandsons, Zachary and David Gilmore; siblings, Sister Mary Florence Gilmore O.P., Joanne Gilmore-Grygier and husband, Paul, Paul Gilmore and wife, Diane, and James Gilmore and wife, Debbe; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. John was a bone and tissue donor and will continue his charitable works for those who are beneficiaries of his Gift of Life (Gift of Life Donor program www.donors1.org)

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 22, 2024 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 1325 Klinerd Rd., Pennsburg with a burial following in the Parish Cemetery at Holy Cross, Pennsburg. Family and friends are welcome to a viewing at the church starting at 9 AM with the Knights of Columbus conducting a short service at 10:45 AM prior to mass. An evening before viewing will take place on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington St., East Greenville, PA 18041 from 6 to 8 PM.
