James Leroy Benfield, 77, of Krause Road, Schwenksville, died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at home. He was the husband of Joan L. (Swavely) Benfield celebrating 53 years of marriage on September 28, 2010.
Born in Zieglerville, he was a son of the late Ambrose and Mary W. (Simmons) Benfield.
He was a DHI Technician for Dairy 1 of New York from 1956 until 2010.
He was a member of Hope Community Church, Gilbertsville and enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with his grandchildren, his great grandson and his dog, Jack.
Surviving along with his wife are four children, Christine A., wife of Tony L. Rhoads of Frederick, Mark J. Benfield and wife, Connie L. of Boyertown, Timothy D. Benfield and wife, Jamie L. of New Berlinville and Karen L., wife of Thomas J. Slater of Schwenksville; a brother, Adam Benfield and wife, Pauline of Delaware; nine grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley, Amber, Kyle, Thomas Jr., Adam, Alyson, Adam and Kyle; great grandson, Jacob and loving mother-in-law, Ivy Swavely of Schwenksville.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hope Community Church, 2732 North Charlotte Street, Gilbertsville with Pastor Ryan Kiefer officiating. Interment will follow in Keelor’s Union Cemetery, Schwenksville. Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at church.
