Irwin R. “Sonny” Nester, 79, of Pennsburg, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Quakertown.
Born in Swamp, PA, he was a son of the late Oleda (Weller) and Wilson Nester.
Irwin worked as an Auto Mechanic for the former Heimbach & Sweatt in Pennsburg for over 25 years. He later worked as a Manager for Heston Swartley Gas Station in Red Hill and most recently as a Stockperson for Weis Market in Pennsburg.
Irwin served in the United States Marine Corps during peacetime. He loved being outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are two children, Kathleen A. Griffin of Pennsburg and Raymond I. Nester, husband of Sandra of Green Lane; three siblings, Grace, wife of Richard Stull of Barto; William Nester, husband of Carole of Pennsburg and Robert Nester, companion of Doi of Boyertown; sister in law, Dolly Nester, companion of Robert of New Berlinville; five grandchildren, Damian, Kyle, Trisha, Cody and Corbin; seven great-grandchildren, Valen, Vayla, Lillianna, Malikai, Mason, Mikey and Rayne and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Christine Lear and a brother, Wilson Nester, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA with Rev. Wayne Shelor officiating.
