I. Victor Stahl, 99, widower of Mildred B. (Antrim) Stahl, formerly of State Street, East Greenville, died Friday, December 10, 2010 at Frederick Mennonite Community.
Born in Upper Hanover Township, he was a son of the late Isaac S. and Mary (Graber) Stahl.
He was a State Store Manager for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board including the East Greenville store for 29 years retiring in 1969 and a member and past president of the of the Pennsylvania Assoc. of Retired State Employees.
He was a free lance writer and correspondent for area daily papers and was the editor of the Town & Country from 1970-1978 and also was a stringer for the Morning Call Newspaper for 30 years covering local events.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Transportation Corps serving as a Staff Sergeant in the Pacific Theatre and earned 5 service stars.
He was a 1930 graduate of East Greenville High School and was a 3 sport athlete and captain of the basketball team. He attended Ursinus College Evening School from 1971-1973.
He was on the Pennsburg Advisory Board of Montgomery County Community College for 15 years. He was also the East Greenville Borough Secretary for 14 years and served 6 years on the borough planning committee.
As an avid sports fan he served as a statistician for the East Greenville Baseball teams from 1930-1950 and in 1992 the Upper Perkiomen Middle School gymnasium was named in his honor for his many years of support in the athletic and academic fields.
He was a lifelong member of New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ serving as the Sunday School Superintendent for 14 years, on the Consistory as a deacon and 2 terms as an Elder, and was the Director of Church Information for 15 years.
He was a 50 year Member of both Perkiomen Lodge #595 F&AM, Red Hill and the Valley of Allentown Lehigh Consistory and a member of the Rajah Shrine Temple, Reading and its Hospital Service Unit. He was a life member of both the East Greenville Fire Company and the Owls Nest #1302, East Greenville and a RAWD member of the Grundsow Lodge #7 since it’s founding in 1951 and it’s Schreiber since 1970. He was an avid golfer.
Surviving are nieces, Gloria Woodland and her son, Kevin of Lansdale, Kathy Lennon and her husband, Johnny of Texas and Ellena Lucas and her husband, Tony of Keene, NY; nephews, Paul Antrim and wife, Joanne of Texas and William Westley and wife, Julie of Macungie; son-in-law, John J. Kibler of Hamburg and his daughter, Angela of Colorado and other extended family. Along with his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Stahl Kibler; 2 brothers, Elmer and Homer Stahl and 3 sisters, Cora Westley, Elsie Moyer and Ida Steinman.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday at New Goshenhoppen UCC, 1070 Church Road, East Greenville. Interment will follow in Western Salisbury Cemetery, Allentown. A viewing will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at church.
