Homer Long, 88, husband of Arlene R. (Rushong) Long, of Spring Mount, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 in Pennsburg Manor.
Born in Sumneytown, he was a son of the late John S. and Estella (Bernhardt) Long.
He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the European Theatre during World War II.
He worked as a Supervisor at ICI Americas in Valley Forge before retiring.
He was a member of Old Goshenhoppen Reformed Church where he had served as the sexton after retiring.
Homer was a member of the Lower Frederick Fire Company where he had been a fireman for 50 years and also served as a Fire Chief. He also was a member of Perkiomen Lodge #595 F&AM in Red Hill and enjoyed hunting at his cabin in Bradford County and antique cars.
Surviving along with his wife of 66 years are two children, Terry Long and wife, Diane of Souderton and Robin, wife of George B. Smith of Pennsburg; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, he is predeceased by three brothers, Purnell, Lavern and Paul Long.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Old Goshenhoppen Reformed Church, 2092 Church Road, Woxall with the Rev. John I. Fanella officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville.
