Helen Szimhart, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on August 18, 2024, at the age of 100 in Douglassville, PA. Born in Budapest, Hungary, on July 21, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Bela and Elizabeth (Rathmanner) Puhasz.
Helen was a seamstress by profession, leaving a mark in the fashion industry through her meticulous work at various establishments including Kessler's Clothing Store and Agnes Edmunds Bridal Shop.
Helen's journey in life included hardship and love, as she met her husband, Joseph, while both were interned at a refugee camp in Germany. Together, they emigrated to the United States in 1951 with their three-year-old son, forging a life filled with devotion and family values, while sharing 67 years of marriage.
She gracefully carried herself like a lady and found joy in simple pleasures such as gardening, baking, and knitting. Helen's talents extended to creating communion bibs for St. Aloysius Parish, a testament to her generous spirit and dedication to her faith. She and her husband were active members of the Hungarian Club, Magyar Tanya, Barto, PA.
Helen Szimhart is survived by her son Joseph Szimhart and wife Becky, son-in-law Steve Seitz as well as grandchildren Christina and husband Rick, Nadia and husband Felix, Deborah, Ona, and Lani, and great-grandchildren: Charles, Alex, Leela, Jack, and Hana and beloved goddaughter Agnes Mullard. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents and husband she will be reunited in Heaven with daughter, Jeanette Seitz.
A Funeral Mass in remembrance of Helen Szimhart will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 223 Beech St, Pottstown, PA 19464 on September 7, 2024, at 11:00 am, Friends will be received from 10-11 AM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Magyar Tanya organization (https://magyartanya.org) in honor of Helen's heritage and legacy.
