Harry Wood

April 14, 1945 — July 25, 2015

Harry Charles Wood, II, 70, husband of Linda L. (McCreary) Wood, of Pennsburg, passed away at home on Saturday, July 25, 2015. He and his wife would have been married 35 years this November.

Born in Quakertown, he was a son of the late David E. and Dorothy (Wienandt) Wood.

Harry was a 1963 graduate of The Perkiomen School, Pennsburg and a 1967 graduate of Trinity College, Hartford, CT where he was a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity, Beta Beta chapter, and sang in the Chapel Choir.

He taught at The Perkiomen School and Trinity – Pawling School, NY then worked as a stock broker for A.W. Benkert, NYC. He was a management consultant with Brooks International Corporation, then an investment advisor with Wood, Young and Company retiring as their vice president in 2005. While he was an investment advisor he taught business communications at Lehigh University as an adjunct professor.

Harry was an avid golfer and an active member of Saucon Valley Country Club for more than 46 years. He was dedicated to bringing tomatoes to the members and staff from his garden every summer and also gave his tomatoes to other friends, neighbors and family. He was also a member of the Valley Choral Society and the Upper Perkiomen Republican Club. He also enjoyed traveling, especially cruising.

He was a lifelong active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Red Hill where he served on the Finance Committee and was a member of the Senior Choir.

He will be remembered as a true gentleman to the end and will be sadly missed by his wife, Linda; his daughter, Sara Louise Wood, Sterling, VA; nephew, Roderick Ian Wood, Red Hill and cousins, J. Gibson Watson, Denver, CO and Robert Wood, Red Hill. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his twin brother, Roderick W. Wood.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2015 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1244 St. Paul’s Church Road, Pennsburg, PA with Rev. Wayne R. Shelor, Interim Pastor and Vicar Leah Woehr - Grande officiating. Family and friends may call from 9:30 until 11:00 am Monday at the church. Burial follows in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery. The Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville is in charge of the arrangements. Offer sympathy to the family at www.mannslonakerfuneralhome.com.
