Grace R. (Nester) Cianci, 75, of Riverview Park, Reading, devoted and loving wife of John J. Cianci, passed away Tuesday after a prolonged illness at the Berks Heim Nursing Home. She and her husband were married for 30 wonderful years, having been joined in marriage at Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale, by Rev. Richard Schaeffer on Christmas Day, 1980.
Born and raised on a farm in Upper Salford Township, she was the daughter of the late David H. and Mamie (Schwenk) Nester. She attended the former Pike School, a one room schoolhouse, and then graduated from the former Schwenksville High School. She later attended Lansdale School of Business for 2 years then was employed by Harleysville Insurance Company as a file clerk until moving to Reading. In Reading, she was employed at the Berks County Court House as a stenographer. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed attending services and functions there, but each year she would attend a service at the old church, Frieden’s Reformed in Sumneytown and sit in the very pew her mother and father would regularly occupy for services. She was a former member of the Muhlenberg Lioness Club and was a volunteer for 16 years at the former Community General Hospital. She loved traveling with her husband and going to the Reading Phillies. Grace’s family would like to express their appreciation to the entire staff of Berks Heim for their outstanding, caring and love shown to her over the period of her residency there.
Surviving along with her husband are two daughters, Kimberly R. Snyder of St. Petersburg, FL and Leslie R. Snyder of Blandon; two sons, Christopher R. Snyder of PA and Scott R. Snyder and wife, Kristen (Evans) of Media; step children, Terrence J. Cianci and wife, Karen of High Falls, NY, S. James Cianci and wife, Nicole of Skippack and Jennifer Cianci of PA. and grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Scott and step grandchildren, Glenn, Dawn, James and Ian. She was predeceased by a half brother, Mervin Nester and 2 half sisters, Virginia Witomski and Pearl Gaugler.
A funeral service was held 11 a.m., Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 3104 Main St. Sumneytown. Burial is in Frieden’s Union Cemetery. The viewing was 9:30 to 11 a.m. at church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Reading-Berks Alzheimer’s Assoc., Court Street, Reading PA 19601, to St. John’s Lutheran Church or your favorite charity. Arrangements were handled by Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville.
