Gloria Christman

November 25, 1928 — June 26, 2011

Gloria Mae Christman, age 82, of Red Hill, passed away June 26, 2011.

Born in East Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Bessie (Krause) Christman.

Gloria was a 1948 graduate of East Greenville High School, and earned her Associates Degree from Pensacola Jr. College.

She was a veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserves and sang in the Navy Chapel Choir in Melton Florida. She received a student pilot’s license to fly small aircraft in 1966 and often said that the biggest thrill of her life was flying solo.

Gloria was an accomplished bowler, ardent golfer and played softball and basketball with organized woman’s teams in Pennsylvania and Pensacola Florida.

During her career she worked at Knoll Associates in Pennsburg, Pensacola Florida Airport as Senior Administrator to the Manager, and at Philco-Ford as a Secretary in the Human Resources Department in Lansdale. Gloria also owned Gloria’s Cards and Gifts in East Greenville.

She was a longtime devoted member of New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ serving as a Deacon, Elder, and President of Women’s Fellowship. Gloria taught adult Sunday school and was active in the PA Southeast Conference as Vice Moderator of the Women’s Ministries committee.

Gloria loved her family and was always grateful for her lifelong friends.

Surviving are two sisters; Doris, widow of Carl Wanamaker of Ambler and Anna, widow of Carson Hensinger of Macungie. Two brothers: Carl Christman and wife, Linda of Topton and David Christman and wife, Cookie of Marietta, GA. Sister-in-law, Bonnie Christman of Pennsburg; and many beloved nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, her brother, Edwin, predeceases her.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at New Goshenhoppen UCC, 1070 Church Road, East Greenville with Rev. Dr. Deborah Rahn Clemens officiating. There is no calling hour prior to the service.
