Gertrude G. (Baker) Smith, 88, formerly of Red Hill, PA, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022 at the Quakertown Center. She was the loving wife of the late, Aaron Smith, sharing 60 years of marriage together before his passing in 2011.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Margaret (Quigley) Baker.
Gertrude was a graduate of Little Flower Catholic High School in Philadelphia and went on to earn a Master’s Degree from Temple University in Education. She spent her 20 year long career as an Early Intervention Teacher.
She was a member of St. Philip Neri R.C. Church in Pennsburg and was known to be an avid reader.
Surviving are her nine children, Francis Smith, Clayton Smith and wife, Felice, Theresa Koltonuk, Victoria Moran and husband, Sean, James Smith and wife, Patricia, Donna Paul and late husband, Thomas Paul, Jr., Joseph Smith, Bruce Smith and wife, Sarah and Roger Smith and wife, Regina; 32 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Isabelle Colomy . In addition to her husband and parents she is predeceased by a son, Gerald Smith; and siblings, Ernest Baker, Margaret Alvarez, Agnes Sullivan, Mary DeJoseph, Lillian Howell and Eileen Baker.
A Mass will be held at 12:30 PM on Friday, November 4, 2022 at St. Philip Neri R.C. Church, 1325 Klinerd Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073 with a burial following in Sunset Memorial Park, Huntingdon Valley, PA. A viewing will be held from 11 AM to 12:15 PM at the church prior to mass.
