Gerald J. Mullaney, Sr., 73, of Pennsburg, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2012, at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Joan M. (Kriz) Mullaney celebrating 51 years of marriage in August.
Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Henry and Margaret (Werthner) Mullaney.
He graduated from SETON HALL UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW - J.D., St. Joseph's University and West Catholic High School.
He practiced law in the Upper Perkiomen Valley for the past 40 years. During his long career Jerry served with many professional organizations including: Pennsylvania Bar Association; Montgomery County Bar Association; Montgomery County Trial Lawyers Association (Past President); Trust Counselor's Network; Montgomery County Estate Planning Council; Elder Law Committee of Montgomery Bar Association; Philadelphia Estate Planning Council; Probate and Tax Committee of Montgomery Bar Association; Former Member of National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys; Blue and Gold Officer-United States Naval Academy; United States Service Selection Board - Congressman Charles Dent (PA 15th District); US Submarine League; Navy League; US Naval Institute; USN Surface Warfare Association. He also was one of the founding members of Montgomery County Constable Association and formerly served as a Constable
He was very involved in Upper Perkiomen Valley community organizations, including: Upper Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce (Past President); Green Lane-Marlborough Lions Club (Past President); St. Philip Neri Home and School Association (Past President and Parish Council); Perkiomen School Parents Association (Past President); Board of Trustees of The Perkiomen School (Former Trustee); Montgomery County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP); Former Contributing Editor for the Montgomery County Elder Law Handbook; Author of "Legal Ease" column for The Hearthstone Town and Country; Advisory Board member of the Montgomery County Office of Aging and Older Adults; Lecturer for Alzheimer's Association; Certified Docent (Volunteer Tour Guide) on the USS New Jersey (BB-62).
Jerry had many diverse hobbies and passions in life including: avid bird watcher and gardener, world traveler having visited 36 countries on 5 continents, and was interested in recreational boating and salt-water fishing. He was a US Navy hobbyist and one of the last civilians to pilot a nuclear attack submarine. He had a life-long passion for classical music and was an avid piano player.
He was a longtime member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church where he was a member of the Parish Council.
Jerry loved his wife Joan, five children, Gerald J. Mullaney, Jr. and wife, Dana of Worcester, Martin P. Mullaney of Skippack, Christopher P. Mullaney and wife, Pamela, Pennsburg, J. Patrick Mullaney and wife, Julie of Royersford and Laura T. Mullaney of Harleysville; and seven grandchildren, home and summer Sundays at the pool with his family.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 1325 Klinerd Road, Pennsburg PA with the Rev. Robert A. Roncase officiating. Burial follows in Holy Cross Cemetery, Pennsburg. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville and also from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the church.
