In loving memory of George N. Gilde, October 2, 1921 to August 7, 2013, loving husband of the late Eleanor H. (Tapler) Gilde, of Pennsburg and formerly of Green Lane, passed away at Pennsburg Manor.
Born in Norristown, PA, he was one of four generations of barbers in the Green Lane area. George’s father started the Green Lane Barber Shop in 1917. George, his two brothers and three nephews are also barbers.
George’s father taught them all that they needed to know about Barbering and is a legend in Green Lane.
George served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in England. He is a lifelong member of VFW # 5954 of Red Hill and a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Pennsburg.
He is the father of Cindy Gilde, wife of Ed Longazel, Green Lane; Karen, wife of Raymond Kaufmann, Red Hill and the late George N. Gilde, Jr.; brother, of the late Joseph, Philip, and Julia; grandfather, of Vincent Kaufman and his wife, Lydia and Felicia Kaufmann and great-grandfather, of Isabella and Brigitta Kaufmann
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 1325 Klinerd Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073 with the Rev. Raymond Smart officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Pennsburg. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA.
