Frank Dice

Frank James Dice, Sr., 94, widower of Marian H. (Schell) Dice, of Perkiomenville, died Friday, September 14, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Coatesville.

Born in Pennsburg, he was the son of the late Alexander and Eleanor (Huston) Sturges Dice.

He received a Technical Degree in Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration from Temple and ran his own repair business from his home working into his late 80’s.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Philippines as a Staff Sergeant with the USAF Far East 803rd Aviation Engineers. Following a battle he was captured and held in a prison in northern Japan for 3 ½ years. He was awarded a Purple Heart and various other meritorious service awards.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sumneytown where he was a Sunday School teacher and member of Church Council. As his hearing declined he was unable to continue those posts, however, his devotion continued since the first Sunday the congregation walked down the hill to the new church. He also was a member of the VFW Post #5954 in Red Hill.

Surviving are two children, Patricia, wife of Marcos Mercon of Souderton and Frank J. Dice, Jr. of Norristown; two half-brothers, Vernon Dise of Philadelphia and George Huston of Pensacola, FL; a half-sister, Ruth McCandless of Warminster; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Along with his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, Thomas, who leaves behind his wife, Bonnie and two children and a half-brother, Nelson Dice.

A graveside funeral service and interment will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Frieden’s Union Cemetery, 1011 Church Road, Sumneytown with Rev. Rebecca Eisenhart officiating. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville.
