Ernest Mack

February 26, 1917 — February 4, 2011

Ernest W. (Ernie) Mack, 93, husband of Gladys of 68 years, formerly of East Greenville, has peacefully left this world to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, February 4, 2011 in Tucson, AZ. Born in

East Greenville, he was the son of the late Howard and Amanda Mack.

Ernie spent his childhood fishing, hunting and trapping in and around East Greenville. He loved flying and joined the Army Air Corp in 1942 and soon after married his wife Gladys. Ernie never met an airplane he didn’t want to fly. He flew everything from Piper Cubs to bombers, but his favorite was fighter aircraft. During World War II he trained many pilots and also became a certified airplane mechanic. During the Korean War he flew the F-86 Sabre Jet.

Ernie retired and moved to Tucson, AZ in 1969 where he enjoyed taking trips with Gladys in his Beechcraft Bonanza airplane. In the late 1980’s Ernie gave up flying and bought a motorhome, taking trips as far as Newfoundland and seven trips to Alaska. When he wasn’t traveling he enjoyed fishing the nearby lakes and entertaining friends and family in his Tucson home.

Surviving along with his wife is his daughter, Carol Lukecart and husband, John of Tucson AZ.; sister, Thelma Rohrbach of Boyertown, PA.; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Along with his parents he was predeceased by a son, Ernie and a sister, Ruth.

A funeral service in the will be held 1 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2011 in the Fellowship Hall at New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, 1070 Church Road, East Greenville, PA with Rev. James Roth officiating. Prior to the funeral service there will be a brief Masonic Service starting at 12:45 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
