Emil R. Ferketich, 71, of Hatfield, formerly of Green Lane, passed away on January 6, 2011 at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Baxter) Ferketich. They celebrated 44 years of marriage on May 7, 2010.
Born in Philadelphia on April 9, 1939, he was the son of the late Andrew and Judith (Pelzer) Ferketich.
Emil served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961. He was in the Merchant Marines from 1962 to 1965. He then worked at Merck & Company for many years in various positions, including his last position as Group Leader of the Paint Department. He retired in 1998 after 33 years of service.
He and his wife, Patricia, enjoyed spending time at their home on the Susquehanna River in Mehoopany. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed carpentry, gardening, playing cards, and following professional baseball and football. Friends and family members will remember him for his great sense of humor, generosity, and positive outlook. Emil loved life and he lived every day to its fullest. He will be deeply missed by many.
Surviving are his wife Patricia; two daughters, Emily Sellers and her husband, Michael, of Lansdale and Amy Ferketich and her husband, Mario Peruggia, of Columbus, Ohio; two granddaughters, Lauren and Madeleine Sellers; a brother, Andrew Ferketich and his wife, Patricia, of Pennsburg; and a sister, Helen Prutzer, of Collegeville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Steven; and four sisters, Mary Baker, Rosalie Prather, Amelia Kovacic, and Elsie McGoldrick.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, with the Reverend Menno Good officiating. Interment will follow at Frieden’s Union Cemetery, Sumneytown. Friends and relatives may call from 9:00 until 10:30 on Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.
