Ehrenfried “Fred” W. Hofke, 87, husband of Gisela (Merz) Hofke, of Red Hill, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018 at Life Quest Nursing Center in Quakertown.
Born in Berlin, Germany, he was the son of the late Edmund and Margarete (Schultz) Hofke.
Fred served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 as a tank mechanic.
He worked at Plummer Precision Optics in Pennsburg as a design engineer of production machines for 28 years until retiring in 1997.
He was actively involved in Boy Scouts, serving as the committee chairman of East Greenville Troop 108 for 30 years as well as earning his Wood Badge Beads and the District Order of Merit. He also won an award for Best Mustache for the East Greenville Centennial in 1975.
Fred was a member of New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, East Greenville.
Along with his wife of 59 years, surviving are his two sons, Michael C. Hofke of Red Hill, Heidi and grandson Nicholas of Alburtis and Stefan M. Hofke and wife, Linda and granddaughter Katarina of Michelau, Germany; and a sister, Eva Clarke.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a sister, Edeltraut Jordan.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington St., East Greenville, PA 18041 with Rev. Cydney Van Dyke officiating.
