Edward “ED” August Diephaus, 79, of Pennsburg, husband of Lois M. (Meyer) Diephaus, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2013 at Grand View Hospital, Sellersville, PA.
Born in Cincinnati, OH, he was a son of the late August and Mary (Bellersen) Diephaus.
He attended school at Purcell High School and Xavier University, both in Cincinnati, OH. Ed also received his Masters of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University.
Ed worked as an advocate for public health centers in under-served communities. He worked in the Office of the Secretary for the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services for over 33 years in Washington, DC. He was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Pennsburg, PA; Ed was a beloved husband, devoted father and grandfather, fervent woodworker, competitive Scrabble player, crossword enthusiast, skilled computer programmer, and, at a very young age, avid tricyclist.
Surviving along with his wife of 56 years, are five children, Ann Diephaus of Vienna, VA; Mary, wife of John Pagan of Harleysville, PA; Ruth, wife of Tai Chang of Blue Bell, PA; Paul Diephaus and wife, Julie of Johns Island, SC and Jean, wife of Zack Moore of State College, PA; two siblings, Donald Diephaus and Gertrude Rolfes both of Cincinnati, OH; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Spencer, Jack, Mike, Luke, Alexander, Nathan, C.J. and Benjamin. He was predeceased by a sister, Theresa Diephaus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 23, 2013 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 1325 Klinerd Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073 with Rev. Robert A. Roncase officiating. There will be a viewing from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Friday at the church. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Pennsburg, PA.
