Edna Arlene (Hoch) Diehl Young, 93, formerly of Red Hill, Frederick and Hendricks, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Frederick Living where she resided since 1993.
Born in Clayton, PA she was the daughter of Ervin F. and Linnie Mae (Diehl) Hoch. She was also the widow of Paul Diehl and LeRoy “Bill” Young and the mother of the late Violet F. Scheetz and Gail S. Ziegler
She attended Upper Hanover School on Kutztown Road. She was a homemaker, worked in a manufacturing plant, was a waitress at the former Hassler’s Restaurant in Gilbertsville and operated Diehl’s Service Station in Red Hill with her first husband, Paul. She was a lifetime member of Christ Lutheran Church Niantic where she served on the church council and the altar guild. She was also a supporting member of Milford Park Bible Camp in Zionsville and an auxiliary member of Gideons International Organization.
Edna loved to sew, do crafts, handwork and to work outdoors.
Edna is survived by grandchildren, Charles N. Scheetz of Bechtelsville, Jason Scheetz of Fleetwood and Christina Alderfer of Telford; her son in law, Rev. Henry Ziegler of Barto; nieces, Carolyn Miller of N.C., Sarah Frye of Pennsburg, Alverta Laubach of East Greenville, Lorraine Fox of Quakertown, Beulah Fritzler of Green Lane, Pauline Weber of Emmaus, Helen Reimold of Emmaus; Sally Kennedy of Pennsburg, Eileen Lasher of Bristol, Betty DeGroat of Morrisville, Evelyn Hladchuk of Philadelphia, Marion Tokay of Laurel, DE, and Dorothy Shipe of Pennsburg; nephews, Roy Grubb of Pennsburg, Lawrence Diehl of Bally, Lester Renninger, Jr. of East Greenville, Paul Styer of Pennsburg and Russell Styer of East Greenville; cousins, Doris Lesher of Palm and Marvin Diehl of Trexlertown; stepchildren, LeRoy “Bill” Young of Schwenksville, Donald Young of East Greenville and Faith Young of Bernville.
In addition to her parents, husbands and daughters, she is predeceased by sisters, Marguerite Styer, Mabel Grubb, Lauretta Lasher, Sallie Renninger and Rosa Mae Hoch and by a brother, Ralph Hoch.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Christ Lutheran Church-Niantic, 222 Niantic Road, Barto, PA 19504 with Rev. Matthew Ollikainen officiating.
