Edna Longacre

June 2, 1920 — October 20, 2009

Edna M. Longacre, 89, of Washington Township, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 with her loving family by her side.

Born in Clayton, she was a daughter of the late Milton S. and Emma (Miller) Longacre.

She was an administrative secretary at Longacre Electrical Service, Inc. in Bally and began working for the founder, then his sons and grandsons who currently own the company. After three generations she retired in 2001 at the age of 80 after 63 years of dedicated service. She was featured in an article for her years of service, along with the above photo, which was published in Neighborhood Section of the Boyertown Times on February 8, 2001 shortly before retiring.

She was a life-long member of Palm Schwenkfelder Church and was a devoted Sunday school teacher in her earlier years. She also was a member in very high standing of the church Diaconate.

She was a former member of the Soroptimist Club and BPW which are organizations for women in business.

Edna was known by many to have been very generous with family, friends and charitable organizations. She loved to travel and took trips to Europe, Hawaii, North Africa, Austria, Switzerland and many other locations. She was an animal lover and took care of three special dogs, Trixie, Nicky, and her last companion, Dusty. She was also an avid horticulturalist and maintained the “Truck Patch”.

As the family matriarch, she was like a mother to the entire family and is survived by a sister, Pauline L. Kloenne of Newtown; eight nieces and nephews, Ruth H. Mitman of Collegeville, David P. Longacre of Oakland, MD, Paulette A. Farmer of Broken Arrow, OK, Donald R. Longacre of Macungie, Paula D. Moyer of Hereford, Richard D. Longacre of Barto, Robert Kloenne of Newtown, and Sandra Sands of Argyle, NY; sixteen great nieces and nephews and many more great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Grace L. Hevener, Mary E. Clemmer, and Paul M. Longacre.

The family wants to send a special thank you to Leyna Belinsky for her many hours of loving and caring assistance over the last several months.

A Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Palm Schwenkfelder Church, 833 Gravel Pike, Palm with Rev. Nick Pence officiating. Family and Friends are all invited to pay their respects during the viewing which will be from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. in the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Palm Schwenkfelder Church Memorial Fund, P O Box 66, Palm, PA 18070.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, Inc., 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA.
